Director

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Materials Science, Engineering, and Commercialization (MSEC) Doctoral Program within the College of Science and Engineering at Texas State University.

We are living through a remarkable materials revolution — one that is reshaping not only how new materials are developed, but how they are brought to bear on the defining challenges of our time. From nanotechnology enabling breakthroughs in energy harvesting and precision cancer treatment, to advanced computational methods yielding entirely new classes of composite materials, the pace of discovery is extraordinary. A Ph.D. in MSEC provides the rigorous, multidisciplinary foundation you need to be at the forefront of that discovery.

The MSEC program is built around application-oriented research. You will work alongside nationally funded and internationally recognized faculty, with access to unique, state-of-the-art research facilities. Critically, our program goes beyond the laboratory — equipping you with the business acumen and commercialization skills needed to translate your research into real-world impact.

What sets MSEC apart is the caliber and experience of our faculty. Many of our senior faculty have held leadership roles in both large corporations and emerging technology companies, bringing firsthand knowledge of technical innovation and commercialization to the classroom and the research lab. You will not simply study what others have done — you will learn directly from practitioners who have done it.

I look forward to working with you as you pursue your doctoral degree and build the skills that will define your career.
